English below. Filmen handler om vognlandsbyen Brakkebygrenda (1999 – 2014) som lå i Gamlebyen i Oslo frem til 4 juni 2014. Det alternative bofelleskapet okkuperte i 1999 en tomt som hadde stått ubrukt i årevis, full av søppel og en verneverdig brannruin. De ble brutalt kastet ut av politiet i 2008. Da tomten igjen ble liggende brakk flyttet gradevis en rekke unge folk tilbake. Navnet på stedet er en vri på Astri Lindgrens barnebok om barna i Bakkebygrenda. Fra 2010- juni 2014 bodde 15 stykker fast i campingvogner, busser og brakker, i tillegg til at flere reiser jevnlig på besøk til lignende steder og gjestevognen var alltid full av gjester fra andre land og steder. Filmen spenner mellom dagligliv og kampen for å bevare hjemmene sine. Stikkord er byøkologi, gentrifisering, gjenbruk, samhold, bynomader, feminisme, sterke damer og et forsøk på å skape en alternativ måte å leve på i byen. Hovedopptakene ble gjort i 2013 og 2014 med innledningsklipp fra utkastelsen i 2008.
Brakkebygrenda is a film about a makeshift village that was located in the Old Town of Oslo from 1999 until June 4th 2014. This place for an alternative lifestyle was on wasteground previously full of rubbish, and left unused for years after a fire in a preserved house and grounds. After the first brutal eviction of the residents in 2008, young people gradually started to return to the plot as it remained unoccupied yet again.
The title is a play on the Astrid Lindgren book Barna i Bakkebygrenda, The Children of Noisy Village.
From 2010 to June 2014 15 people were housed in caravans, buses and portacabins. Several travelers moved around to similar places and the guest van was always full of travellers from other places and countries. The film moves between the inhabitants´ daily life and the battle to preserve their homes. Key words are urban ecology, gentrification, reuse, unity, urbanism, feminism and an attempt to create an alternative way of living in the city. The main filming was done in 2013 and 2014 with the introduction from the eviction in 2008.
